The commitments of the Bodhisattva vows and Tantric vows are the basic foundation upon which all the realizations of the stages of the path to enlightenment will grow. If we neglect these commitments our spiritual practice will be powerless. The commitment of the Bodhisattva vows is the practice of the six perfections – giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom motivated by the compassionate mind of bodhichitta. And, although there are many commitments of Tantric vows, through sincerely practising the nineteen commitments of the five Buddha families we can fulfil all the commitments of the Tantric vows. This short daily practice shows how we can deepen our understanding of these vows and strengthen our promise to keeping them.
