An audio recording of prayers recited during ceremonies for going for refuge and taking Bodhisattva vows. Going for refuge to the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha – is the gateway through which we enter Buddhism. By entering and remaining inside Buddhism we have the opportunity to begin, make progress on and complete the Buddhist path to liberation and enlightenment. The gateway for entering Mahayana Buddhism is making the promise to engage in the Bodhisattva’s training, motivated by the compassionate good heart of bodhichitta. This is the Bodhisattva vow. By keeping this promise we move ever closer to the attainment of supreme enlightenment. Both ceremonies are traditionally performed with a preceptor, and thus a short pause is included at the appropriate point in the CD where the preceptor guides the actual taking of Mahayana refuge and the Bodhisattva vows. Both ceremonies are traditionally performed with a preceptor, and thus a short pause is included at the appropriate point in the CD where the preceptor guides the actual taking of the vows. The chanting resumes with the special dedication prayer. The wording for the requesting and thanking mandalas varies slightly depending on which ceremony is being followed; both alternatives are included in this CD.
